CHAPTER 9

I shut the door, my legs were shivering, and they lost the capacity to hold the burden of my body. I took a deep breath and wiped my tears. It was already five and I had to go back to work in couple of hours. I pushed myself to my desk and took out my journal.

“Dear Diary,

I never thought I would have to write you again. I never allowed myself to do so, because I never let myself think about those days, relate myself to those memories. I always pushed those thoughts away but today I am here again feeling choked, hurting, and my body trembling with same fear.

I feel like I’m again in the same damn room, lying on the floor. It felt like I’m living in that room again, filled with darkness and nobody cared, not even Vihaan. Him not recognizing me today proved that maybe he never did.

Tears had wet the pages of my diary. I sighed and put the diary back in the drawer.

It was 7 and the meeting was in 3 hours, I pushed myself to take a shower and got dressed in a white pant suit, grabbed my bag and put on my make-up heavy contouring, bold lip shade and brown neutral eyes defining depth. I checked if everything was on point. I wanted to dress the opposite of the way I was feeling to handle all my thoughts.

“Abhay meet me at office in 30. We have to discuss on a few points before meeting.” I left him a voice mail; he wasn’t taking my calls so I assumed he was still asleep.

I was nervous, even though I made the presentation, I never got the time to prepare for it.

I headed to the living room and quickly made a smoothie; it was my day for making breakfast and dinner. Mia and I have divided alternate days for cooking and other household chores to avoid fights.

“I’m leaving for the meeting; your breakfast is in refrigerator. I’m damn nervous, ugh. Anyway, See you.” I pinned the note to the refrigerator.

I grabbed my bag and rushed out, on my half way I checked my mobile again for the 6th time to check if Abhay had responded to any of my calls or texts.

A new text from unknown;

I opened the text in a reflex expecting it to be a new number of Abhay, I immediately parked my car in the left to re-read that text.

“I need your help please come to the location I sent you right now- Vihaan”

With a tagged location

“What the fuck!” I tried calling the same number and to an old number both the numbers were not reachable.

In the next couple of hours, the meeting would begin, an opportunity I had been trying for past 6 months, my dream and on the other side Vihaan. Fuck. I was staring at the message for a while as all the memories pictured in my mind.

“Abhay, I hope I would be there on time for the meeting but please take over the project and manage everything If I don’t make it, I will explain later.
